After a tremendous first two years, Tampa Pride 2017 returns during the last weekend in March this year. We’ve had our Launch Party at Southern Nights Tampa in September 2016, done a few bingo fund raisers at Hamburger Mary’s Tampa, held our first-ever Tampa Pride Art Festival in conjunction with HCC Ybor City in December 2016 and watched the divas at Miss Tampa Pride in January at The Honey Pot, crowning Kenya M. Black as Miss Tampa Pride 2017. As we enter 2017, the real fun begins!
Our next bingo fund raiser is on Monday February 6th. On Wednesday February 22nd is our Grand Marshal’s Gala at Brew Bus — a new event sponsor for 2017! We’ll have another bingo fund raiser on Wednesday March 6th, then our VIP Sponsor Party is next the week of Tampa Pride on Thursday (location to be announced). Pride week culminates in the parade and street festival on Saturday March 25, 2017.
This year’s parade and street festival will be bigger and better than 2016. We’ll have additional capacity for parade floats and entries, as well as over 80% more booths. We’ll also feature added stages and entertainment for your viewing pleasure! In addition, the street festival is moving back to 8th Avenue! We’ll have food and entertainment also at Centro Ybor as well as the HCC parking lot area (northeast corner of 15th street and 8th Avenue). The Street Festival and entertainment begin at 10AM, followed by a special Pulse Tribute at noon on 7th Avenue in front of Centro Ybor, then the parade kicks off at 1PM from Nuccio at 7th Avenue (travelling east to 20th Street).
With another year of marriage equality in the books, we have plenty to celebrate. But there’s also much work to be done in light of recent election results. Our community is under attack accross the nation. Now isn’t the time to be complacent. From fighting housing discrimination to fighting job discrimination to fighting attempts to legalize discrimination across the board under the misnomer of religious freedom: we can’t let up. We must capitalize on our gains, while helping GLBTA youth who have been abandoned on the street and helping discrimination victims wherever they exist.
In 2017 we’ll be one of the first Pride celebrations in the U. S.! Stay tuned to our website, Facebook page and Twitter feed to get all the information you’ll need to celebrate #TampaPride2017. We’re looking forward to seeing you soon!
